Current Gallery: thewrathofconsciousness ( piece)
Back in 1994 when I was an Art Major at Northern Illinois University I began to explore the development of this series. Inspired by music, movies and culture, I sketched out an image that was initially much darker and macabre then the subsequent paintings. It was never my intention to depict something gory or grotesque, but I wanted to bring living flesh together with the lifeless skeleton. I also wanted these figures to pose in familiar gestures so that people would identify with them more. After completing the first piece of the series, it became more clear to me what the subject matter and style was going to be for the next paintings. After I decide how the composition will look, I conduct a photo shoot with the skeleton and the human model using a single light source and various poses. I then use those images to composite the final image that will be used as the reference for the painting. I find that there are many interesting ideas that come from this concept and I am still developing it.
